Neil Armstrong is my hero. He has taught me that through hard work and a good amount of effort, almost anything is possible. Even something as incredible as being the first man on the moon.

Neil Armstrong was born on August 5th, 1930 in Ohio. As a young boy, he was a member of boy scouts, and advanced all the way to the highest rank, Eagle Scout. At the age of 16, Armstrong received his flying license before he even received his driving license. Armstrong went to two different colleges, the first one being Purdue University, where he received a bachelors degree in aeronautical engineering. Later on, he went to University of Southern Carolina to receive a masters in the same degree.

Armstrong was interrupted from his studies to go to the Korean War. There, he flew 78 combat missions, and received tree air medals for his service. After that, he was accepted into NASA as a test pilot. With that job, he flew over 200 different models of aircraft, ranging from high speed jets to slow gliders. He really took off though when he was accepted as a astronaut. He was the pilot for the Gemini 8 mission where he and his crew performed the first docking of two spacecrafts. Neil Armstrong really made a difference when he was named commander of the Apollo 11 mission, which was to be the first lunar landing ever. Once successfully on the moon's surface, Armstrong said the saying he is known for-“That’s one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind.” After exploring for about 2 hours on the surface of the moon, Armstrong came back to earth welcomed as a world wide hero.

I chose Neil Armstrong as my hero because he is a source of inspiration and motivation to me. He is inspiring because he has accomplished something unbelievable, and he is motivational because he needed his courage, determination, and strength to be the first man on the moon. I can relate to him because I would like to accomplish something amazing in my lifetime.

Neil Armstrong may be known by most people as the first man on the moon, however, to me he is a inspirational person whose actions and traits make him my hero.
