Neil Armstrong

by Sean from Williamsville

Neil Armstrong was a brave man. Many people have been inspired by him, especially those who worked for NASA. He was an explorer because he has explored space and has been the first man to the moon and explored the moon. He was not only a hero for that, but he was very kind to other people too.

Neil Armstrong has a lot of background to share other than going to the moon. As a child, Neil Armstrong took his first airplane ride when he was only 6 in a Ford Trimotor. He loved it and he took airplane flying lessons when he was 14. He ended up getting a plane license before he got a drivers license! When he was 17, he enrolled at Purdue University. Two years later when he was 19, he got called into the navy to fly planes. In one of his 78 missions, his wingtip got sheared off by a wire that the Koreans were trying to trap him with. He flew the plane back to safety without being harmed. Later, he worked in NASA. One time he was landing a spacecraft and it malfunctioned. He parachuted to the ground unharmed while the spacecraft exploded into flames. As you can see, Neil Armstrong was not just about going to the moon. He has a lot of background too.

Neil Armstrong had a lot of accomplishments and contributions. Neil Armstrong was an astronaut. He had many accomplishments. First he attempted to hook up with a satellite called the Agena Satellite. He didn't actually do it, but he came close. He was brave though because the spacecraft shook violently because of a problem with the fuel tank. He also went to the moon. He was the first man to the moon too. He went with Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Michael Collins didn't actually go to the moon. He flew them there. While he was on the moon, Armstrong put an American flag on the moon to honor America to the be the first country on the moon. He served in the navy for America too. As you can see, Neil Armstrong had many accomplishments and did many contributions.

Neil Armstrong had many challenges, obstacles and problems to overcome. When he was testing a Lunar Landing Research Vehicle, or a LLRV, here on earth, he was almost killed. He was riding it when it started to malfunction. He was landing it and it began to fall to the ground. At the last second, he pulled the eject handle and parachuted out. Later he said, "The only damage done to me was that I bit my tongue." When he was younger, he had to work in a store to afford plane lessons that he really wanted. He finally had enough money to afford a lesson and soon enough, he had his plane license. When he was a little older, his wing got scraped off in the navy and he had to fly to safety. Last, one time he was in a space mission to hook up his spacecraft with a satellite and bring it back to earth. On his way, the spacecraft started to shake violently. It turns out, there was a problem in the fuel compartment and it started to spew fuel into space uncontrollably. They flew it back to earth when it stopped and recovered. As you can see, Neil Armstrong had many challenges, obstacles, and problems to overcome.

Neil Armstrong had some awards too. To begin with, he got the Golden Camera Award. He got that for moon telecast. Next, he got Logie Awards. He got those for televisions greatest moment when they were telecasted in space. He got a walk of fame award because he walked on the moon.Neil Armstrong received many other awards such as a Gold Star, Korean Service Medal, Engagement Star, Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, the Robert H. Goddard and many more. As you can see, Neil Armstrong had many awards.

Neil Armstrong has many heroic character traits. One trait is perseverance. He had gone through many space flights that might not have ended well. He almost crashed to death but he quickly ejected. Also, he shook violently in one flight. It he hadn't persevered, he wouldn't have gone to the moon. Next, a heroic character trait is bravery. Neil Armstrong was very brave. If he wasn't brave, he'd wouldn't have gone to the moon. He probably wouldn't have been an astronaut. Last, he was devoted. If he hadn't been devoted, he probably wouldn't have thought it was worth it to go to the moon.

A young person might learn that if you don't give up, you might achieve a high goal. Neil Armstrong could have given up when the Gemini 8 shook violently. He could have given up when the LLRV exploded into flames while he ejected with a close escape. He never gave up though. Because he never gave up, he became the first man in the moon. As you can see, a young person might learned that if you don't give up you might reach a high goal.
