3, 2, 1 Liftoff! Neil Armstrong was the first human being to ever walk on the moon July 21st, 1969. Neil was a very humble man who was very brave. Many people consider Neil Armstrong a national hero. Neil was offered fame, to be in movies, and many other riches, but he refused. He didn’t want to be famous or to be a superstar with tons of money. He wanted a normal life.

Neil Armstrong is known for being the first man on the moon. When he stepped on the moon’s surface and said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” it became the most famous sentence of the 20th century. He put the American flag on the moon and it gave pride to people in America because we were the first ones to send a man to the moon. At that time in history, our country was in a space race with the Soviet Union, and the world.

Before becoming famous for landing on the moon, Neil Armstrong proved his skills and bravery. During a test flight on March 16, 1963 in space everything was normal until the spaceship started to spin out of control! Neil had to fly it down to earth and landed it in the Atlantic Ocean. He saved his crew’s life as well as his own. Many of the things Neil Armstrong did affect people’s lives positively. Neil was the first in his family to go to college, making his family proud.

These events impact me and my life because Neil Armstrong showed me that you should never give up, even when things are looking bad. Also, he is a good example of working hard to achieve your goals and that anything is possible.

Neil is 80 years old today and he is still a hero. I value good leadership, bravery, and being humble as important heroic qualities and Neil Armstrong fits all of that perfectly because he was leader of many missions in space! Many people, including me, consider Neil Armstrong a national hero and look up to him.
