My definition of a hero is somebody that cares about others and believes in themselves. Someone who changes history to make the world what it is today. I think Neil Armstrong fits this definition because he was brave and daring. He was curious about his surroundings. Neil Armstrong did something that will always be true and changed history. Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon.

After serving as a naval aviator from 1949 to 1952, Armstrong joined NACA, (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics), in 1955. He has flown over 200 different models of aircraft, including jets, rockets, helicopters, and gliders. Armstrong transferred to astronaut status in 1962. On March 16,166, Neil Armstrong boarded Gemini 8 and was assigned the command pilot. He performed the first successful docking of two vehicles in space.

Neil Armstrong’s second and last flight was on Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing mission. He was the spacecraft commander. His mission was to land on the moon and change history. On July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 was finally launched. Neil Armstrong’s heart was racing at a speed of 109 beats per minute. Neil and his crew did not have motion sickness. They were all nervous and excited. On July 20, 1966 Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon and changed history. Aldrin, his crew member celebrated with a handshake and a pat on the back. When Neil Armstrong got back, he received many honors and awards.

I think Neil Armstrong is a hero because he was brave enough to travel in space and step foot on the moon. I think everyone should consider Neil Armstrong as a hero for chasing his dream on July 20, 1966, on the Apollo 11, and happily achieving and changing history that will last forever one step at a time.
