Juan Ponce de Leon

Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish governor of Puerto Rico. He was born in 1460 in San Tervas de Compas. He was elected to be the governor by the Spanish crown. When he was small he lived with his family in San Tervas. The reason why I think Juan Ponce de Leon is considered a hero because he was a great governor, helpful ,and he didn’t always think of himself.

Juan Ponce was a great governor in 1509 because of the Spanish crown elected him for his hard work. So he was the governor of Puerto Rico. Also he was a great governor because he helped many people like Christopher Columbus in his second voyage. Until one day that all went away, he was no longer the governor. He was replaced by Christopher’s Columbus son, Diego Colon. But even though he was no longer the governor they thought he was a great governor.

Juan Ponce de Leon was really helpful because of the many things he has done to people. Like on Christopher Columbus' second voyage in 1493 Christopher Columbus told him to go with him and help him. Juan Ponce also was helpful because he found gold once and gave some away to his family or people who needed it.

Last of all Juan Ponce didn’t only think about himself. He thought of his family, and when he was the governor he thought of everyone in Puerto Rico because he gave gold to many people. He helped many people in certain things, like to another place.

In conclusion, that is why Juan Ponce de Leon is considered a great hero. For being a great governor, being helpful, and not just thinking about himself.
