Crikey! What is a hero? Well a hero for me, is someone who wants to make a difference in the world. They will stop at nothing and will let nothing stand in their way, when they can make a difference. My hero is Steve Irwin, because he let nothing stand in the way when wild life needed to be saved. You might remember him from his television show The Crocodile Hunter or by his famous saying, Crikey!

Steve also known as the crocodile hunter, is the son of Bob and Lyn Irwin, he was born on February 22, 1962, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and was raised in Queensland. At first they lived in a shed, then they lived in a house that his father build for them. When he was growing up, their house was always filled with wildlife, there were dangerous snakes, lizards, injured birds and orphaned kangaroos. On his 6th birthday he received a python from his father. He got his passion for wildlife and for the environment, from his parents. His mother, rehabilitated animals and his father showed him how to catch crocodiles, and to respect nature, wildlife. Steve is a guy who always did something out of the ordinary, if he wasn`t wrestling crocodiles he was darting snake bites, to show a point. He is a naturalist, environmentalist and a documentarist. When he was a young man, he worked as a crocodile trapper in Queensland, he either trapped or removed them from populated areas, and then released them into the wild. In 1991, Steve took over the management of his parents wildlife park. He married Terri, and together they had 2 children, a daughter named Bindi Sue, and a son named Robert Clarence. Steve sadly passed away from a stingray, its ray pierced his chest, September 4, 2006, while filming one of his documentaries, on the Great Barrier Reef on the coast of Queensland.
The five character traits that most describes Steve, is that he is loving, passionate, enthusiastic, respectful and brave. I choose loving because he took care of some of the most dangerous animals when they needed him the most and he always showed the love he had for his family. He is passionate because he never gave up, whenever wild life needed him, you could always count on him to come help them out. Enthusiastic because, no matter what he was doing, he was always happy and excited to get started. He was never negative, when something didn't go quite as planned. Last of all he is brave because he wasn't afraid to interact with some of the most dangerous animals in the world, to inform us about those species.

Steve dedicated his life to inform us about wildlife, even if one day it might cost him his life. He achieved his dream by making documentaries and with the help of his television show The Crocodile Hunter. An obstacle he had to overcome was on January 2nd 2004, when he was feeding a crocodile, while holding his son in the other arm. Every one thought he was putting his son's life in danger, but he said he was never in any harm. If I could have met Steve, these are the questions I would have asked him. 1. How did you feel after catching your first crocodile? 2. Do you see yourself as a hero? 3. Who is your hero and why?
This is how I think he would have responded. 1- When I caught my first crocodile I was really excited and at the same time a little nervous, that night is one of my best childhood memories. 2- I do not see myself as a hero, but maybe other people would consider me as one. 3- "You see all I ever wanted to be was my dad, he's my hero, and he's been the greatest legend and also the most powerful player in my life."

Steve Irwin is my hero because he had a passion for wildlife and so do I. Steve was someone who loved what he did and always gave 110%. Even after the incident on January 2nd, he never gave up on his dreams to spread the word. Even to this day, his words are still spread throughout the world. This is why he will always be greatly missed and never forgotten.
