Mother Teresa

by Christina from Commerce City

Mother Teresa in my eyes was one of the greatest women on earth, that is why I can simply say she is my hero. To define and label a person your hero is not something that comes easily; it takes time and serious thought. In today's world super stars are being looked up to as heroes, but their contributions to society is superficial, scandalous and shallow. However Mother Teresa life was based on contributions to society that were charitable, honorable, and loving. Mother Teresa can be labeled a hero for all that shes done. I don't think that anyone can wake up in the morning and dedicate so much of their life to people they don't know and want them to live a life with peace.

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, better known as Mother Teresa, was born August 27, 1910 in Skopje Yuoslavia. Mother Teresa was the youngest of three children of an Albanian builder. In 1928 Mother Teresa joined Sisters of Loreto where she took on the name "Teresa" after St. Teresa, patroness of the Missionaries. Mother Teresa accomplished a a lot of respectful awards, incredible prizes, and was recognized world wide. From The Nobel Peace Prize, writing books, and building Charities.

Mother Teresa's miraculous journey began when she was 18 years old, when appeared a half-dead woman laying lifeless in the streets of Calcutta she stayed with women until her last breath, giving the women dignity. This is when she promised her life in helping the poorest of the poor, the dying, and the sick. Sending, praying and giving respect, help, love, and a good memories to take with into heaven. This was her one and only goal at the time and she worked selflessly to make all of this come true. Mother Teresa left when she was 19 years old, this is when history began.

Mean while, in 1929 Mother Teresa taught at a high school teaching young girls. Although she was still young she had "a call within a call" that told her to leave the convent and work directly with the poor. Working with the poor in Calcutta she founded what is called Missionaries of Charity in 1950. This program provides food for the needy and organized hospitals. It also had schools, orphanages and youth centers. Aiding young ones with the leper disease and the poor. In 1985 she was awarded with the Medal of Freedom.

Mother Teresa said once "Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person." This is exactly what she did. I do not think that any one of us can look in the mirror and and say I dedicate my life to the poor. It takes courage inner peace and a lot of strength to do what she has done. Mother Teresa began as a leader and built an army of peace makers.
