Have you ever ridden in an airplane? Have you ever wondered who invented an airplane? What does the date December 17, 1903 mean to you? The people that invented the airplane's name were Wilbur and Orville, Wilbur was born on April 16, 1867. Orville was born on August 18, 1871. In the year 1878 their dad brought back a small toy helicopter for his boys. "Made of cork, bamboo and paper, and powered by a rubber band to twirl its blades, the model was based on a build [model] by the French plane [aeronautical] pioneer Alphonse Penaud." Amazed [Fascinated] by the toy and its mechanics, Orville and Wilbur would grow [develop] a lifelong love of aeronautics and flying.

The Wright brothers lived in Dayton, Ohio, and they owned a bike shop but in their free time they spent all of it on their idea that they didn't know it would change how the modern world travels. "between 1899 and 1905, the Wright brothers conducted a program of aeronautical research and experimentation that led to the first successful powered airplane in 1903 and a refined, practical flying machine two years later. All successful airplanes since then have incorporated the basic design elements of the 1903 Wright Flyer."

Wilbur Wright liked to watch birds and study them when he was a kid. He was fascinated by the way they flew around. He knew that humans wouldn't be able to fly unless the person flying could control the machine. "Largely self-taught, and certainly a genius, Wilbur's keen observations of birds in flight supported his belief that powered flight would not be possible until methods had been developed to allow a pilot to properly control the craft"(http://wrightbrothers.info/).

What is a hero, a hero is someone who gives up something for someone else, who fights for the right cause, and someone who keeps working at what they want to achieve. The Wright Brothers fit our definition of a hero because they changed how the whole world works for the better. They changed the economy because now we can trade a lot of goods in a very short amount of time. Families that live far apart can go see each other in less than a day. And they changed modern travel in general so if anyone needs to go anywhere in a quick amount of time they can in less than a day.
