Who do you think of when you hear the word “hero”? Some people may think of people who fly around with a cape and tights. Others think of doctors who perform life-saving operations. To some, a best friend or a helpful parent comes to mind. A hero to me is Wilbur Wright.

Wilbur Wright’s family was important to him. Wilbur Wright was born on a farm in Indiana on April 16, 1867. He was the third child in five. His brothers were Lorin, Reuchlin, and Orville. He also had one sister, Katharine. His father, Bishop Wright, kept changing his job, so they often moved but 7 Hawthorn Street is where they often stayed. His mother was Susan Catharine Wright.

Wilbur Wright is my hero for many reasons. When he was nineteen, he was hit in the head with a bat. The injury was not bad, but afterwards he had to stay home because of a heart problem. While he was home, his mother was dying from tuberculosis so he looked after her. After his problem passed, he spent the next few years developing the airplane.

I think Wilbur Wright is a hero within and a hero to others near and far compared with "The Hero's Trail" by T.A. Barron. The reason I think he is a hero within is because he did not give up hope when he had his heart disorder. He also cared for his mother even though she had tuberculosis. That was not an easy task seeing his own mother pass away. He is a hero to others near and far because he helped create the first airplane. If it was not for him we may not have airplanes. As you can see Wilbur Wright had great character.

Now you know Wilbur Wright did what heroes would do. He worked though a heart disorder. He cared for his mother. Also, he gave a hand in creating the airplane. This is why Wilbur Wright is my hero.
