Description

Andrew Goodman was a volunteer for Freedom Summer, or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a 1964 voter registration drive aimed at increasing the number of registered Black voters in Mississippi. The state was chosen as the focus of Freedom Summer 1964 due to its historically low levels of Black voter registration. He and two other volunteers were murdered by the American terrorist group, the Ku Klux Klan. Goodman knew there were hateful individuals who were opposed to the work he was doing but fearlessly chose to help improve democracy in Mississippi.
