Description

I write songs about heroes like Susan B. Anthony, Linda Brown, and forest activist David Chain

Verse 1:
When Gypsy was eleven, he lay in the forest
And marveled at how birds could fly
He conquered the world when he climbed his first tree
And vowed one day he'd climb to the sky

His first year in high school, he found in the schoolyard
A robin who'd injured its wing
With birdseed and water, he nursed it to health
And he dreamed he heard that bird sing...

Chorus:
When innocent lives fall in harm's way
and you're the hero who rescues the day
the light in your heart gives birth to a star
and shines in the sky
Heroes never die

Verse 2:
When Gypsy was eighteen, the great redwoods born
before Jesus were chopped at the knees
He rounded his friends up to save what remained
of those holy majestic old trees

Those redwoods were home to a small marbled seabird
In danger of losing its nest
Alongside his friends, Gypsy ran through woods
begging the loggers to rest

Repeat Chorus

Verse 3:
The loggers kept chopping; another tree toppled
The teenagers felt their hearts pound
But no one there could have prepared for the shock
When they found Gypsy face to the ground

Together, the kids and the logger who fell
that tree fell to their knees and cried
As they bonded in sorrow, I got the call
And learned that my brother had died

Repeat Chorus
