CALL FOR ENTRIES – 2021 DAN ELDON ACTIVIST AWARD – DEADLINE OCTOBER 1
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., July 12, 2021 – The MY HERO Project is looking for short films that inspire positive change through activism. The annual Dan Eldon Activist Award comes with a $500 cash prize for a filmmaker who calls attention to an everyday hero making a difference in the world. The deadline is October 1, 2021.
Dan Eldon was a passionate activist and photojournalist, fearless in his quest to give a voice to those who needed to be heard and telling stories for those who had no voice. In 1993, Eldon was killed while on assignment in Somalia. His mother and sister, Kathy Eldon and Amy Eldon Turteltaub, founders of Creative Visions Foundation, honor his memory each year by presenting the award through the MY HERO International Film Festival.
Last year’s winner was Taking Root, directed by Jonah Elias and Produced by Michelle Law. The film features Mr. Loi, a Vietnamese farmer, who discovers the techniques of chemical-free farming and works to change the perception of clean farming in his co-op.
Submissions should be no longer than 10 minutes in length and appropriate for all ages. There are categories for filmmakers of all ages and abilities, from elementary school students to professionals. Entries may include Narrative, Documentary Music Video, Experimental and Animation genres, as well as Excerpts and PSAs.
The MY HERO International Film Festival is part of The MY HERO Project, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to sharing stories of heroes from all parts of the world. Winning films are featured on the MY HERO website (myhero.com), and enjoyed by a global audience.
