MY HERO’s 2025 International Film Festival  – The Dan Eldon Activist Award 

Since 2009, Kathy Eldon of the Creative Visions Foundation has supported MY HERO with the Dan Eldon Activist Award, honoring the life and work of her son, Dan Eldon—a fearless photojournalist, artist, and activist.

Each year, Kathy Eldon and Amy Eldon Turteltaub present this award to a filmmaker whose work powerfully showcases activism and inspires positive change. With his impactful work featured in art journals and exhibitions worldwide, Dan Eldon dedicated his life to telling untold stories and helping those in need.

In his memory, Kathy Eldon established this award to celebrate his enduring legacy and creative spirit, recognizing filmmakers who use their craft to amplify the voices of activists making a difference in the world.

Call for Entries 2025
Short films, ten minutes and under must be submitted online to The MY HERO International Film Festival by 1^st October 2025 to be eligible for this special award.

The award is presented by Kathy and Amy Eldon in honor of Dan who was a passionate activist, artist, and photojournalist. He was fearless in his quest to help others and in his desire to tell the stories that others were not telling. Tragically, at the age of twenty-two, Dan was killed while working as a photo-journalist in Somalia. Kathy, of Creative Visions Foundation, established the Dan Eldon Activist Award to honor his life and creative spirit; she presents the award to the filmmaker/s who best use/s media to effect positive change.

The Award comes with cash prizes up to $1,500. The winner will be selected by Kathy and Amy and announced as part of the 21st MY HERO International Film Festival in 2025.
