CAST YOUR VOTE FOR THE 2019 PEOPLE'S CHOICE WINNER OF THE MY HERO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

OCTOBER 8, 2019 - LAGUNA BEACH, CA - It's time to CAST YOUR VOTE and help choose the winner of The MY HERO 2019 People's Choice Award. To participate, watch the four short, hero-themed films (total 24-minutes) chosen as this year's finalists, and vote for your favorite.

This a great opportunity for parents and teachers to begin a conversation about what makes a hero and what makes a good short film. Be sure to check out our Media Arts Resources, designed to help you and your students create your own hero films. Our 2019 Teacher's Guide offers ideas for establishing judging criteria and formulating discussion questions.

THIS YEAR'S BALLOT INCLUDES:

John Gilmore Meets TwentyThirty –  a documentary directed by Witja Frank and Andrew James Benson, produced by Maja Heinrich. In post-apartheid South Africa, where inequality is deeply ingrained, educator John Gilmore works with young black students to help them realize their own power in the world.

World Have Power - a documentary by filmmaker Lynne Cherry. Ten-year-old Jaysa rallies her Bridgeport, Connecticut community by speaking out about the asthma and suffering caused by a local power plant. When the community succeeds in closing the plant, the young girl realizes that, “words have power.”

Global Dance Heroes - Global Inspiration! – a documentary by director Teresa Taylor. Two dance programs, one in the USA and one in Brazil, meet in Spain to share the beauty, joy and inspiration that comes with working with dancers with Down Syndrome.

Made in Madras – directed by: Mohit Arora, Aishwarya Ashok, Shikha Kumari for the ChangeChitra production company.  This documentary depicts the struggles of 18-year-old Sangeetha, an accomplished soccer player who lives on the streets of Madras in India.
