MY HERO SEEKS SUBMISSIONS FOR 2011 DAN ELDON ACTIVIST AWARD

Los Angeles, Ca – 7/11/2011 - Artist and activist Dan Eldon was a hero in the truest sense; a photojournalist whose passion was to shed light on stories that needed to be told. In 1993, Eldon was killed by an angry mob while covering the conflict in Somalia for Reuters News Service. He was only 22-years-old. To honor Eldon’s memory and his life’s work, the MY HERO International Film Festival will present the 2011 Dan Eldon Activist Award to a short film that addresses the theme of “activism.”

Kathy Eldon, Dan Eldon’s mother, will present the award at the Screening and Award Ceremony, which takes place Saturday December 3rd at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.

Kathy Eldon is a journalist, author and humanitarian. She transformed her grief and channeled her energy into creating a foundation that supports activists who, like her son, use media and the arts to call attention to critical needs and humanitarian issues in an effort to bring positive change in the world. Creative Visions Foundation helps artists, writers and filmmakers use their artistic disciplines as vehicles of social change. The author of 17 books, Kathy Eldon also is working on three upcoming series for the Oprah Winfrey Network and her company has teamed up with Julia Roberts’ company to produce a feature film about Dan Eldon.

Submissions are currently being accepted for consideration for the $500.00 Award
