Description

Pain Awoke in Me opens a window, in front of which the viewer stands on one side or the other of the wall that separates marginality from privilege, silence from outcry, dark skin from light skin, echoes that intertwine intermittently in the middle of two surfaces, a space where conversation, dialogue, discussion, are inevitable, with respect to the stories of five women of African descent, and by extension, of an entire ethnic group marked by discrimination. This short film is presented as a problematic piece, not only because it was conceived, filmed and edited by a light-skinned male, but also because of the intrinsic power relations between whoever is in front of or behind the camera. Nevertheless, this film was made with the utmost respect, in collaboration, and with the approval of those who represent themselves in it, in a position of loving resistance, denouncement, and of an inquisitive gaze, in search of a change, a conversion on the part of the viewer.
