My hero is Mother Teresa. She has done lots for other people and she also gave up her time to help less fortunate people. She was born in Skopje (Macedonia) but then moved to Calcutta. She was born in 1910 and died in 1997. Mother Teresa is important to me because she changed so many people's lives and she gave up so much to help other people.

Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on August 27, 1910. She ws born in Skopje, Macedonia (Yugoslavia). She was the youngest of three older siblings. She become interested in missonaires through a local group called Sodality. At 12 she felt strongly about the call of God and by 17 she "responded to her first call of a vacation as a Catholic missonary nun. When she took her vows as a sister of Loretto (in India), she chose the name Teresa after saint Therese of Lisieux."

In 1994 she become the principal of St. Mary's High School in Calcutta. Before that she had also taught geography and catechism there. In 1948 "she devoted herself to working among the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta." Sadly she died on September 5, 1997. Mother Teresa has made such a big impact on so many people's lives and I am sure that she will be remembered for quite a long time!
