The Guerrilla Girls are a group of all women artists who challenged what was considered feminine in art.
Formed in 1984, the Guerrilla Girls are a group of all women artists who expose racism and sexism within the art community. They use bold typography and pop-art aesthetics to make their posters accessible and highly visible. "The Advantages of Being a Woman Artist" is a satirical list of the benefits of being a woman artist. The "advantages" listed highlight the fact that male and female artists are often treated differently and that women artists are not taken as seriously as their male counterparts. This artist group is direct about calling out injustices within the art world and use their art as activism. The Guerrilla Girls serve as an important reminder of the work that needs to be done to make the art world more equitable and inclusive.
