Cofounded in 1908 by Mary Mahoney (center), The NACGN was originally created as a support group for African-American nurses.
The first annual convention of the association was held in Boston in 1910. There were only 26 charter members at the time.
I, the Black Nurse of America,
Wish to do my part.
My heritage of Service,
My gift of Enlightenment,
My love of fellowman
and country, my religion,
All these
Urge me on to serve.
