Harriet Ross Tubman

by Gabriela from Tampico

"Roses have thorns."

My definition of a hero is a person who saves and protects the lives of people, someone who has done something special for them, and the communities in which we live benefit. A hero is honest. She is a good person. She is responsible and a person who gives her life for people whether they are black or white, in jail or free. A hero is a good person who hears the voice of all the people. A good hero is a person with gifts that make her special, like my hero, Harriet Ross Tubman. There are many other heroes like musicians, angels, or helpful people. They all are good heroes, too.

Harriet Tubman was the slave of a man named Edward Breads. She is a hero because she got out of that house and she went on to save some African Americans. She had a safe place for them in Canada. By herself, she helped some slaves find freedom.

Harriet Ross Tubman was born a slave in 1821. She was born on the eastern coast of Maryland. She had a master named Edward Breads. When she was free, she became a spy to help black people revolt. She went to Port Royal and she was a nurse. On March 10, 1913, she died. She was 93 years old. She was a slave her whole life until she got out and began helping other slaves. She was unhappy until she was free. This is a story about my favorite hero, a good hero.
