His teammate, the late Hall of Famer, Willie Stargell said it best, "Roberto Clemente played every play of every game like his life depended on it."
The highest compliment that has ever been paid to any athlete.

I lived in the town of Carolina, Puerto Rico as a teen when his plane went down. It was our national tragedy to lose such a great man. There was a house in Carolina he had lived in. My friends, brothers and I would drive by his house that was high on a hill which was nicely landscaped and think of him. It felt like a shrine to us. It was hard to beleive he was gone. He was in the process of building a dream for his puertorrican islanders, Cuidad Deportiva Roberto Clemente, a sports paradise on many acres of land specially made for our poorer children so that every child on the island would have the opportunity he had to beat the odds. This project became a completed reality after his death but I'm sure he smiles at it from above. We miss you.

Roberto Clemente exemplified what a good hearted human being can do to help others and himself. Roberto Clemente demonstrated that if there is a will there is a way. We need more like him in this world we live in. In my eyes he was not only a hero but also an angel. Thanks Roberto, we'll always remember the wonderful life you lived and how you made all of us try a little harder...Michael Perez--Queens, NYC, Bayamon, PR...

i thing this book is peaceful because i liked when roberto helped that boy get artificial legs from the earthquake and i think  roberto made a good choice when he went on that plane when it already crashed because the plane wasnt leveled because the teenagers didnt know how to level the boxes on the plane.

Debbie & Jake | 8/22/2005 11:13 PM
What a fantastic book and man! Roberto Clemente was a GREAT role model for all young boys to look up too.  Not only was he a great baseball player who truly loved the game, but he was one of the most caring and helpful citizens you will read about. Not often to do you read about famous people following through with such UNSELFISH acts, what a shame that it cost him his life, but I'm sure he was fullfilled knowing he helped so many people, young and old.

A truly great story for all young people to read! I would reccommend this book to all.

Roberto is a very good person, and a GREAT baseball player. I think he should have made it to the pros(which he did) more than any one else in the world. GREAT BOOK!
Juan | 9/12/2004 1:28 PM
I find something great about Roberto Clemente that others saw in him as well -- not just baseball, but how good a person he was.  Delivering relief supplies to earthquake victims but sadly not makine it there.......He like to many others is a Hero, Idol, and Role Model to me.  His memory will live.  He's one of the greatest sportsmen on and off the field.  May you rest in peace Roberto Clemente.  And God bless you too.
