MARCH 23, 2026 — LAGUNA BEACH, CA 

Renowned international human rights lawyer Yasmine Sherif joined the Eva Haller Salon Series on January 31, 2026, to share insights from her new book Unleash Your Humanity: Driven to Become, Inspired to Serve, written in collaboration with Scott Tavis and due to be released in the fall of this year.

During the virtual salon, which is held every Saturday at 2:00 PM PST, Sherif reflected on leadership, responsibility, and service, drawing on her own experiences working across some of the world’s most fragile and complex contexts.

In this time of increasing division and political unrest, Sherif’s book is a call to action, asking its readers to unleash their humanity and lead with empathy. It is through these difficult times, Sherif says, that we can witness the very best of humanity. “Crisis is what forces you to grow as a human being,” she explained, “When you have to solve problems, when you have to overcome the abnormal, that’s when you develop reflexes for the extraordinary. That’s where you find your meaning.”

At times of crisis, Sherif has always led with humanity. In 2016, she became the Director of Education Cannot Wait, a United Nations global fund to provide education to children affected by crises. In the salon, she shared

I think that there are two different sorts of desires that we have. One is the will to power […] But there are many who prefer the will to humanity. What the book is arguing, is that the will to humanity will always prevail.

Through her new book, Sherif hopes to inspire people. “You’re worth something and you have great potential,” says Sherif. “Your greatest potential is your ability to feel empathy, unearth your humanity, and take action.”
