Description
This film was presented at the Global History of Black Girlhood Conference at UVA on March 17th, 2017.
In the summer of 2016, UVA doctoral student Abigail Akosua Kayser collaborated with the girls in City of Promise's Sisters of Nia Young Women's Support Group and the group’s Lead Facilitator Latara Ragland.
Their goal was to have meaningful conversations with Black women in the community on how Black girls can overcome the challenges and stereotypes they face.
In partnership with Light House Studio, the group created this film to document their experiences and explore points of access and personal assets that can empower them to be strong leaders and engaged community members.
