Berta Cáceres rallied her indigenous Lenca people to wage a grassroots protest that successfully pressured the government of Honduras and the world's largest dam builder to withdraw from building the Agua Zarca Dam. In 2015 Berta received the Goldman Environmental Prize for her environmental activism.

Berta Cáceres, a Honduran environmental and human rights activist, dedicated her life to protecting the Lenca community and their land. Despite facing threats from the government and corporations, she led successful resistance against dam projects and co-founded COPINH. Her assassination in 2016 highlighted the dangers faced by activists in Honduras but cemented her legacy as a hero standing up for justice.
