Description

The Afro-Colombian population, mostly descendants of slaves brought to America at the beginning of the 16th century to replace the indigenous labor force, which was dramatically diminishing due to extermination campaigns, disease and mistreatment by the Spanish, represents almost 10% of the population. Even though slavery of Afro-Americans was abolished in 1851, racism, as a systemic practice, persists. Gimme Your Skin is a short documentary based on camera-in-hand interviews conducted in the streets and entertainment venues of Cali, Colombia. In them, we can perceive a reality marked by social, cultural and economic exclusion, against one of the ethnic groups that, in Colombia, according to the eyes of the documentary filmmaker, contains one of the most tender hearts and great capacity to welcome others. The supporting material was filmed in the Pance River region.
