Like much of Rivera's work, Cargador de Flores draws power from simplicity; both in its composition and in the lives of its subjects. Many have guessed at the deeper political meaning behind the common worker struggling with a load nearly too great to bear. This has much to do with the strongly held political beliefs Rivera espoused both in his work and his life.
One of Rivera's four wives was another of Mexico's most renowned painters, Frida Kahlo.
