Description

Set in the Miao villages of Guizhou, China, The Memory We Wear explores the people and practices behind traditional textile craftsmanship. The film follows artisans who continue to create handmade textiles through techniques such as natural dyeing and embroidery, revealing the time, skill, and cultural knowledge embedded within each piece. Beyond the process of making clothing, the documentary examines the meanings carried through patterns, materials, and artistic traditions. Each garment reflects stories of community, family, and cultural memory, offering a glimpse into how intangible heritage is preserved through everyday practices. As traditional crafts encounter a rapidly changing world, the film also considers the challenges of maintaining cultural practices while adapting to new environments. Through intimate observations of artisans and their work, The Memory We Wear presents tradition as a continuing practice shaped by the people who create and carry it forward.
