Description
When 17-year-old Ashley read about the marvelous Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, a young Mbororo pastoralist and climate action sacred resource cartographer in a Rolex ad, she was inspired to craft a spoken word poem about this unexpected heroine. She thinks it’s vital we show how people from every nation care about our planet so we empower young people of every color to champion the Earth. Ashley loves that Ibrahim uses cartography to map her community’s resources to encourage her people to share instead of destroy.
Usually, women and the indigenous are among the powerless, but Ibrahim learned from her mother how to wrest power for the greater good. By imagining what a young woman she admires thinks and sees and feels, Ashley hopes to inspire others to be warriors for the Earth. Ibrahim taught her anyone can.
