Last year, I had the good fortune to go to New York and meet some of the coolest and kindest people the world has to offer through the We Are Family Foundation's ThreeDotDash Programme. I also met Dr. Jeni Stepanek who talked about her incredible son Mattie and the good work he did to help our world. I was so inspired and moved by his story that I spent months reading and writing about Mattie, the results of which are this poem.
I hope it brings people solace and hope in this very scary and uncertain time. Mattie's life philosophy was to play after every storm, so now, when we all feel tossed about but the waves of our world, we must remember to hold onto hope.
